Are fitness wearable just a fad?

With wearable fitness bands, with OLED and modern displays, fitness enthusiasts have just added a new toy to their kitty. Are those 10,000 steps which your fitness wear tells you are any new steps towards better health? Or the benefits theses trackers provide worth all the money? Or is this just about fashion display and technology flaunt?

Rhea wore her new sea green color fitness band and went out for her morning routine. On her way back she proudly announced her pulse-rate, calorie burn, fat burn, etc. But while accounting on all these fore mentioned parameters she barely knows the ideal pulse rate or calorie intake for her body.

So what is the big brouhaha all about? It may just be our increasing reliance on technology and gadgets. By displaying number of steps, calories burnt, heart rate, pulse rate, and sleep pattern, trackers make you feel in control. But as the novelty wears off, it may have the same fate as the treadmill that became the laundry stand. In fitness coach Bhavesh Patil’s opinion, “It’s like a new phone. You will be excited about the new features but a few months later you might not even wear the tracker anymore.” As senior fitness trainer Aakash Pardesi believes, trackers are more fad than function. “You see a new gadget and someone else using it, you want to own it too”.

It is our own judgment that helps and motivates you to remain healthy. Regular exercise, yoga and healthy diet is the key to fitness. However we don’t mean that fitness trackers don’t hold any importance, they are a great way to motivate people but only when people really want to use them instead of flaunting them as a fashion stature. These devices make you conscious of reaching your daily goal. But as we know majority of people buy fitness bands just because others have it. They really don’t look at the technology used, what they consider is color, display, size or is it the latest version.

Therefore in my opinion and conclusion it can be safely said that fitness wearable can be a real helping technology only when people regard it as a data health advisor and not just a fashion accessory.
