Fashion and scandals have been always been synonymous. The ruffles of fashion have always attracted controversies. And why not, the glittering world has some dark shades as well which when come out shock the world.
The scandal comes as “the fashion industry is under increasing scrutiny both from insiders and consumers demanding more diversity and responsibility towards models who are often young and vulnerable,” according to the Telegraph.
So here we present five shocking incidents in the fashion industry that dazed the world.
The sadistic treatment of models during Paris Fashion Week this year has once again sparked a controversy about how models are treated in the glamorous world of fashion. The fashion house Balenciaga owing by French luxury conglomerate ‘Kering’ fired its casting directors after the left 150 models were cramped on a dark staircase for about two hours.
FASHIONISTA KILLER WIFE
Patrizia Gucci was sentenced to 29 years in jail in 1998 for conspiring to murder her ex-husband, Maurizio Gucci. She took umbrage at her estranged spouse when he sold the family leather-goods house—which has since seen a $3 billion influx of cash from François-Henri Pinault—for $120 million. She is known as ‘black widow’ in the Italian press.
Diva’s diva Naomi Campbell threw a Swarovski-crystal-encrusted BlackBerry at her housekeeper Ana Scolavino in 2006. The shameful display, with its key elements of entitlement, excess, and luxury goods, instantly became the epitome of models behaving badly.
In 2008, the hard-partying bi-coastal designer Anand Jon who outfitted Lydia Hearst-Shaw and Paris and Nicky Hilton was found guilty by a Los Angeles court on account of rape and 15 counts of sexual assault against seven women as young as 14. This incident once again brought out dirty realities of the fashion world. Jon is currently serving a 59-year-to-life sentence in jail and awaiting trial for the second campaign of sexual molestation involving a dozen women in the New York area.
THE UGLY SIDE OF BEAUTY FOR MONEY
if every rich family is supposed to be happy then the L’Oréal feud must have surely changed your mind.Françoise Bettencourt-Meyers’s tiff with her mother, Liliane Bettencourt, the now 90-year-old heiress to the L’Oréal cosmetics fortune, earned that clan a badge of distinction. The feud involving over more than $1.32 billion squandered on gifts—including Picassos, Matisse’s, and a Seychelles island—ended when Bettencourt-Meyers declared her mother mentally unfit and removed her from the company board in 2012.
So we can see that the so called perfect world of fashion is actually not-so perfect. Behind the glittering outfits and makeup lie human emotions and scandals just like us. The aura, the lights and the media showcases the perfections of the fashion world but there are imperfections in fashion too just like other things in this world.
